The 59th Springfield Christmas Parade

Volunteer Opportunities

WE NEED YOU!

The Springfield Community Parade Corporation is a non-profit 501C4 corporation that presents the annual Springfield Christmas Parade. The Corporation is a completely volunteer organization that meets almost every month to plan, coordinate, organize and produce the annual December parade.

The parade is a community parade. Each year the parade is in need of community members to volunteer to assist the Parade staff in producing the Parade. Do you have an hour? A few hours? One day? Time for parade planning and monthly meetings?  All day hours on parade day? Even though the bulk of the parade work occurs in the last few months of the year and on parade day itself, there are many opportunities for members of the community to volunteer and help during the year.

Throughout the year, we have tasks that include mailings, address lists, information verification, de-briefing the previous year’s parade and prep for the upcoming parade, to name a few. (And we have some special things in mind for next year in 2012 for the 60th anniversary of the parade.

Several weeks prior to the parade, we need volunteers to help distribute information fliers along the parade route and to hang parade posters. We need assistance in getting the entries logged and in parade line-up order and in getting the entry confirmation letters labeled and mailed in a timely manner.

For the annual parade route Window Decorating Contest, we need volunteers to distribute fliers and we need judges. We also need help with collecting goodies to fill the prize basket.

The day of the Parade, we need at least 40 volunteers to help coordinate the staging, judging, presentation and clean-up of the Parade. 20 of the volunteers will be parade marshals who will monitor the parade route and traffic flow at assigned posts along the way.

In the staging area on parade day, we need volunteers to help with assisting entries locate their starting location, staging the entries into the parade line up, directing traffic, setting up and tearing down of the staging area, and collecting Parade materials and cleaning up of the entire area as the last of the parade leaves the staging area.

We also need a few volunteers for the end of the parade route to guide the entries past the end of the route and to keep traffic flowing. Banners and other parade materials are also collected then.

Above is a sampling of ways members of the community can be involved and be part of the team that presents the annual Springfield Christmas Parade. We would also love to have volunteers who might be interested in shadowing current committee members to learn and become part of the parade team as full-time committee members.
